In 1992, our founding Pastors, Dino and Delynn Rizzo, felt a call from God to express Jesus to the Baton Rouge community in creative, practical ways. They didn't want to be the best church IN the city, but rather to be the best church FOR the city. One night over dinner, Pastor Dino began to describe the vision that God had given him for this new church plant. Mrs. Dee Austin, Pastor Dino’s mother-in-law, spoke up and said, “It sounds like you are describing a healing place for a hurting world.” Soon after, God opened the door for the Rizzos to take over a small church facility on Highland Road and start Trinity Christian Center: A Healing Place For A Hurting World.
On December 6, 1992, we held our first gathering with just a dozen people in attendance, shortly after that, we began holding church services in January 1993. Looking for ways to serve the community, we began to do just about anything we could to be that healing place. From helping widows to move houses, to passing out free rat bait – our mandate was being realized. God grew our church so much that we outgrew the church building! In 1994, we were able to purchase 6 acres of land at 19202 Highland Rd. This move increased our capacity to be a healing place for a hurting world.
On a missions trip in 2000, Pastor Dino miraculously survived a near fatal health emergency. After seeing the healing power of Jesus in their own lives, the Rizzos knew God was calling them to rename the church from “Trinity Christian Center” to “Healing Place Church.” With our new name, God began to expand our reach into the community and into the world. We were able to acquire an additional 46 acres of land surrounding us on Highland Road, as well as to go multi-site by adding two new campuses in 2004.
Since God first spoke to Pastors Dino and Delynn in 1992, our mission has never changed. With every new season and every new opportunity, we strive to meet the calling to be a healing place for a hurting world.
