Serve Your City

Jesus called us to serve within the church and our communities, to be an example of His love. Therefore, our Serve Team serves our community on a daily basis, caring for those in need. To join one of our teams, simply go through our Next Steps Track. For questions about any of our teams, contact us at serve@healingplacechurch.org.

SERVE SATURDAYS

Every Saturday our team comes together to serve in a different capacity in the community. We offer a variety of ways for you to serve others such as visiting those in nursing homes, serving at our Baton Rouge Dream Center, delivering a meal to those in drug and alcohol rehabilitation sites, and throwing block parties. Serve Saturdays are a fun way to get started and plugged into one of our many outreach teams!

 

WEEK ONE: NURSING HOME OUTREACH**

Description: We have a great opportunity to reach out to a nursing home that gets very few visitors besides us. We’ve been able to build amazing relationships with many of the residents and even the home staff. Be a part of this compassionate team.
Where: Healing Place Annex (Front Building)
When: First Saturday of Each Month at 9:00am


WEEK TWO: REHAB OUTREACH*

Description: Serve a meal, invest your time, and pray with people recovering from drug and alcohol addiction.
Where: Baton Rouge Detox on North Foster
When: Second Saturday of Each Month


WEEK THREE: BATON ROUGE DREAM CENTER

Description: We connect with people from the North Baton Rouge area through door-to-door giveaways, block parties, and much more!
Where: Baton Rouge Dream Center

WEEK FOUR: PACKING PARTY**

Description: This team assembles gift bags for various groups of people, such as nursing home patients, battered women and addicts, and LSU students as a simple way of saying “you are not forgotten!”
Where: Healing Place Annex (Front Building)
When: Fourth Saturday of Each Month at 10:00am


WEEK FOUR: LSU OUTREACH

Description: Bring groceries and prayer to LSU Students and invite them to church.
Where: LSU Campus

OUTREACH TEAMS
 
ADMINISTRATIVE VOLUNTEERS

Description: Volunteers are needed to assist with administrative work, including filing and organizing.
When: Mondays Through Fridays from 8:00am-5:00pm
Where: Baton Rouge Dream Center


ANCHOR HOUSE*

Description: This is a transitional living program for youth, ages 16-21, who have aged out of foster care or are homeless. Volunteers are needed to help teach life skills, tutor, mentor, and serve at the home.


BAR OUTREACH*

Description: We display the love of Christ to the lost and broken at LSU by providing food as they exit the local bars.


BASKETBALL OUTREACH

Description: Volunteers spend time building relationships with young guys by playing basketball.
When: Second and Fourth Friday from 4:00-7:00pm
Where: Baton Rouge Dream Center (Basketball Court)


BATON ROUGE DREAM CENTER

Description: This is our inner-city campus. There are many ways to serve here!
Sundays at 10:30am: Security, Ushers, Greeters, Kids Team, Nursery Team, Host Team, Worship Team, and Prayer Partners.
Wednesdays at 7:00pm: Youth Ministry Leaders.
Second and Fourth Friday from 10:00-12:00pm: Cafe/Grocery Giveaway. We give clothes away as well.


BRAVE (BATON ROUGE AREA VIOLENCE ELIMINATION)*

Description: Volunteers are needed to work with youth, ages 12-21, for tutoring, mentoring, and job assistance.
When: Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10:00am-12:00pm
Where: Family Youth Service Center (1120 Government St, Baton Rouge, LA 70802)


CANCER HOSPITAL TEAM *

Description: We visit cancer patients in local hospitals and offer healthy snacks as we encourage patients and their families. We also participate in many ministry opportunities during the holidays.
When: Weekdays at 10:30am (Call Leader for Details)
Where: Mary Bird Perkins and Other Local Hospitals


CENIKOR DRUG REHAB OUTREACH*

Descritpion: Help us to bring snacks and have a time of Bible study and prayer with people in recovery from addictions.
When: Thursday nights (the first through the fourth week of every month) at 6:45pm

COOKING FOR CHRIST

Description: We provide meals for various local events, functions and street outreaches. Our team volunteers their time to prepare and deliver food while touching many lives. This is a simple, tangible way to meet a need and show God’s love.
When: Varies According to Outreach
Where: Healing Place Annex (Front Foyer)


DONUT OUTREACH

Description: We give donuts to youth in areas surrounding the Baton Rouge Dream Center before the school day begins. Volunteers invite youth to participate in the afterschool program.
When: Tuesday from 5:45-6:45am

FOOD PANTRY TEAM

Description: This is an opportunity to serve those in need of food assistance by giving them the gift of non-perishable groceries. We also offer to pray with everyone who visits the Food Pantry. We want to take special care of those who are in need, and this is a simple way for us to reach out and make a difference.
When: Second and Fourth Friday of Each Month from 9:00am-12:00pm
Where: Highland Campus Outreach Building


HEALING HANDS DENTAL OUTREACH

Description: HPC Dental Clinic provides free dental extractions at local dental clinics. The Dental Clinic is staffed completely by volunteers from Healing Place Church and other local churches. In addition to caring for the physical needs of our patients, we offer prayer and fellowship. We need volunteers who are both skilled and unskilled in the dental field.
When: The Fourth Thursday of Each Month from 4:00-9:00pm


HELPS MEALS MINISTRY

Description: The Helps Meals Ministry focuses on serving meals to people who have suffered the loss or illness of loved ones. Meals are prepared and delivered by our volunteers. The stories of people being blessed, touched, and connected are amazing! We get the opportunity to encourage people both inside as well as outside of the church.
When: Varies According to Need


LOUISIANA HEART GALLERY

Description: The heart gallery advocates for children in foster care who are waiting to be adopted. Volunteer professional videographers and photographers are needed to provide photos and videos of children available for adoption. Volunteers are also needed to serve at events where the Heart Gallery is displayed.


MENTORING YOUTH – FOSTER CARE INITIATIVE*

Description: This program serves youth and young adults ages 14-21 that are in foster care or have aged out of foster care. Volunteers are needed to be a committed mentor in the life of a youth/young adult.  Additional training is provided, and mentors are matched with youth based on similar interests and hobbies. Volunteers are asked to commit at least eight hours a month to mentor youth.


METHADONE CLINIC DONUT OUTREACH

Description: We share donuts and coffee with people who visit the methadone clinic. We invite them out to New Beginnings.
When: Friday Morning from 8:00-10:00am


NEW BEGINNINGS *

Description: This ministry helps people recover from destructive lifestyles, addictions, and past hurts.
When: Friday at 6:30pm
Where: Healing Place Church Arena


PRISON MINISTRY*

Description: We are involved in several prisons in the Baton Rouge area. Our goal is to personify Christ’s words, “I was in prison, and you visited me.”  We minister through church services and also on a one-on-one basis with the inmates. Anyone interested must go through Department of Corrections Training and be cleared by a background check.
When: A coordinating meeting is held on the first Sunday of each month at the Mission Café & Bookstore.
Where: Elaine Hunt, Louisiana Correctional Institute for Women, Dixon Correctional Institute, and Angola


SATURDAY NIGHT HOMELESS OUTREACH*

Description: We roam the tough parts of our community and look for hurting people who need prayer and food.
When: Second and Fourth Saturday from 6:00-10:00pm
Where: Meet at the Healing Place Athletic Complex (Ball Fields)


STREET OUTREACH AND HOMELESS BREAKFAST

Description: We serve food, pray with people, clean up, and are friendly to those in need.
When: Wednesday from 7:00-8:30am
Where: 450 Roselawn St, Baton Rouge LA 70806


STRENGTH/SHINE PROGRAM*

Description: This is a 12-week program for at-risk boys (Strength) and girls (Shine) that helps them increase their feelings of self- worth, recognize their strengths and passions, develop awareness of human trafficking, and help them have a more positive outlook toward their futures. Volunteers are needed to teach classes, assist the teachers, and support and encourage students. Volunteers make a 12-week commitment.
When: Wednesday from 5:30-6:45pm

WIDOW’S LAWN CARE

Description: We commit to serving a widow by cutting her grass.


YOUTH DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM*

Description: This program provides a safe and positive place for youth. Volunteers are needed to help with activities and classes, called “life apps.” They include sports, art projects, recreational activities, and music recording/production.
When: Tuesday and Thursday from 3:30-5:30pm
