DEAR KINGDOM BUILDERS,

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts to all of you who gave your time, talents, treasure and touch to so many people during the past month. We’ve heard story after story of how you were there for your neighbors and families in countless serving opportunities. You took a tough situation and in spite of your own power outage and sudden need for generators, extension cords, ice chests and ice, gas cans and gas, you made others around you your priority.

We truly believe this is the heart of the Gospel. I just want to give you a big ol’ “WAY TO GO!” Whether it was seen or unseen, the work of Christ never goes unnoticed by Heaven.

This is at the core of a Kingdom Builder’s desires: building the Kingdom to impact eternity, one person at a time.

I’m sure many of you have heard this verse many times:
“Seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.” (Matthew 6:33)

I often struggle with the question of what that really looks like.

One of my favorite Bible teachers, Larry Stockstill, made a statement in a meeting we were in together: “You’ve got to have alignment before you have assignment.” When he said that, it connected the dots for me. If we want to make a lasting impact for the Kingdom of God it is going to require a correct alignment. What we are aligned with will decide whether we will be able to complete our assignment.

This relates to our relationships, our professional lives, our legacy, our financial health… How have we aligned our resources? If they are aligned with the Kingdom, they will help complete the assignment God has given us. If they are not, they will be wasted.

So, stop for a minute and look at your alignment. In today’s uncertain economy, are you aligned with the Word of God? Are you aligned with God’s love for others? Are you aligned with God’s thoughts toward you?

Get the alignment right, and you’ll get the assignment done. I encourage you to get Kingdom alignment so you can fulfill your Kingdom assignment.

Over the last several months, so much has been accomplished on the new Healing Place Arena!

All of the concrete for the floor, with the exception of one area, has been poured and is complete inside the building.
Finish has been put on the exterior of the building.
Stucco is complete on the upper level, and being applied on the south and east sides of the building.
Bricks will be on site shortly, and installation will begin.
We are beginning to hang sheet rock in the auditorium.
The stage concrete is poured.
The roof is complete, and the installation of all flashing and gutters on exterior of the building have begun.

There is a lot more planned for the coming months! Continue to watch as the Healing Place Arena looks more and more like the finished building! Here are some other things that we will be working on in the coming months:

The building will be enclosed and all glass will be installed by the end of the year.
The exterior of the building will be complete by the end of the year.
We continue to install interior walls, sheetrock, and electrical work.
We are currently running duct work in the auditorium.
We will pour the last area of flooring (in the next three weeks).
We will install the remaining stairways in the building.

Please pray with us for direction, guidance and favor as we near the completion of the Healing Place Arena. We couldn’t do this without you!

1. Tell us about your family.

MARK - I am from Baton Rouge. I grew up in the Istrouma area very close to the Baton Rouge Dream Center. We currently live in Brusly and have lived on the west side of the river for 26-years.

KAYLA - I was born in Shreveport, moved to Baton Rouge as a child and lived in the Broadmoor area.

MARK - We met at a Dallas Holmes/David Wilkerson Crusade (How about some old school "I will Rise Again" and the "Cross and the Switchblade" ?). Her friend knew my friend so we sat behind them. After the crusade, we went out for pizza. That pizza turned into 3 1/2 years of dating and 26 years of marriage. We are blessed with two beautiful, smart and talented daughters (25 and 21 years of age) and an awesome son-in-law.

2. How did each of you come to Christ?

MARK - I grew up in church and in a strong Christian family. One Sunday night, when I was 13, I knew it was time to accept the invitation that God had been extending to me for years.

KAYLA - At the age of 15, I was sitting around a camp fire at a youth camp in Mississippi when Jesus called and I answered.

3. How are you involved at HPC and what do you enjoy about it?

KAYLA - We love the inner city. I serve at the Roselawn Dream Center on Thursday and the Winbourne Dream Center on Friday. We serve together on the Saturday inner city outreach. We also lead an inner city outreach on the second and fourth Monday’s of the month.

MARK - We also have a heart for marriages. We do pre-marriage mentoring and co-lead a married couples life group, along with another incredible couple, Bobby and Tina Arnold, called N2theWord.

MARK - What God is doing through the HPC Dream Center teams amazes me. God opens doors that I never thought would be open. With a can of beans or a bottle of Snapple I see hearts change. I see the Bible come alive in the faces of those that we serve. I also am privileged to witness what it means to be a follower of Christ by watching the incredible people that we serve with and the people who lead the teams. It creates in me a desire to love more, pray more and seek God more. It is fun!

KAYLA - Since coming to HPC our marriage has gone from a good marriage to a great marriage. It is our desire to see other couples have the kind of marriage that God wants them to have. God has done so much for Mark and I that we want to "dig a well" as Pastor Dino expressed in a recent sermon. With each couple that we "mentor" and the couples that we meet in the life group, God uses them to bless us in our marriage. We get to meet some great people.

4. When you're not busy with HPC, what do you enjoy doing?

KAYLA -My passion is traveling. I am an avid reader that loves the outdoors, LSU football games with our kids, and date nights with Mark.

MARK - I love to bass fish. A close second would be bass fishing and coming in third would probably be... bass fishing. I also enjoy playing guitar, sports (watching or playing) and hanging out with family and friends.

5. What does it mean to you to be a Kingdom Builder?

MARK - A Kingdom Builder, to me, means joining a group of people that I love who gave so that God could use them to change me. When I hear "Kingdom Builder" I do not see a "building" I see the thousands of faces that once were hungry but now are fed, the marriages that moved from the edge of divorce to martial bliss and to the heart of the Pastors and staff that show me what it means to be a follower of Jesus.

KAYLA - No matter how much I give, God has given me more. When I think about the sacrifices made by the people before me that enabled me to walk in the door of HPC for the first time and encounter a living, loving God that changed my life, I am very grateful! I want to make the sacrifice for someone else. That is what I believe being a Kingdom Builder means.
